Just wanted to comment on what you say about the films underlying “…. moral and existential stance – it’s denial of the possibility of relationship….” I think the film is about the denial of different possibilities of relationship and that it is important to look at the nature of relationship expressed. The film describes a sado/masochistic view of relationship and the impossibility of escaping from the nature of that relationship, and this is informed by essentialist and constructionist thinking that obscures our individuality and human freedom to respond in different ways in a particular context. It thus ends up merely being a self reflexive encounter with that views stereotypes and desires rather than a full blooded encounter with the human condition.
